Bible Knowledge is a course endorsed by the Malaysian Ministry of Education as a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) elective subject. The government has made the paper available at the SPM-level since the 1960s.
At the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist, Bible Knowledge classes for Form 5 students are conducted once a week on Sundays during the RE (Sunday school) times (9.00am until 10.30pm) for candidates wishing to take this course as an examination subject at the SPM level. Classes for Form 3 & 4 students are conducted after RE (Sunday School).
The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Bible Knowledge is a subject offered at the Form 5 level for students desiring to take Bible Knowledge. Form 4 students will study the Gospel according to St. Luke, while Form 5 students will learn about the Acts of the Apostles.
Adult candidates (under the age of 55 years old) or anyone not falling within the local Malaysian school system (eg: those in international schools, private schools, college or university students) may also apply to take this examination as a private candidate in the SPM examination.
The general aim of this course is to acquire knowledge and understanding of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and the growth of the Early Church. Candidates will be expected to:
- Recall and select factual information.
- Describe, explain, relate and compare and contrast events and teachings in an organised manner.
