About the Youth Ministry

Formed by Monsignor James himself, the Youth Ministry of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist has been the official youth group since the year 2014. Wanting to provide a platform for youths to grow together in the aspects of spirituality and community, We, the ministry work tirelessly with the support and guidance of the parish priest, the other ministries and laity to ensure we constantly give these youths the opportunity to find their calling within the Church and by doing so help build up the Church in the long run.

Simply put, we as a ministry of youths aim to know, to love and to serve God.

To achieve the said aim, we strive to do the following:

To learn catholic virtues with our youths and apply them in our lives amidst chaos
To develop a faith rooted in the teachings of the Church
To develop the Art of Prayer
To bear our crosses together

Bible verse

1 Timothy 4: 1 – “Don’t let anyone look down at you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity”.

Weekly Activities

1st Week – Faith-Related Sessions

With the aim to aid in spiritual growth, sessions of faith are conducted primarily by the ministry’s own session team and secondarily through outsourcing external speakers.

2nd + 3rd Week – (Optional) Sports/Games

4th Week – Sunday School Outreach

Alternating between kindie and the secondary school batch (Form 3 and Form 4) each month, we aim to provide an avenue for these children to learn more about the faith and deepen their prayer life whilst being comfortable enough to openly express their views.

Major Activities

Annual Youth camp

Every year, the youth ministry plans for a camp to reach out to all youths within the parish (and in some occasions outside the parish) with the aim to kindle a friendship between old and new faces and to foster that relationship that will aid in their personal spiritual growth.

Merdeka Outreach

In conjunction with Malaysia’s Independence Day, the youth ministry organizes an annual outreach program with the aim of keeping the spirit of patriotism alive, going hand in hand with what it means to be Catholic.
